SHORT BIO

Aklima Iqbal is a Visual Artist from Bangladesh, based in Vienna, Austria. She completed post-graduation in drawing and painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Dhaka University. From 2016 to 2017, she studied printmaking at Akademia Sztuk Pięknych in.Eugeniusza Gepperta we Wrocławiu, Poland. Since 2017 she has been studying contextual painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. She uses drawing, painting and collage to create works where surprise and color play a main role, in the same time creating absurd narratives and contexts, exciting formulations and arrangements, artistic thinking and research full of surprises and peculiarities in a tension between clarity and mystery. Her work is about the construction and deconstruction of forms and structures of our daily life, which she tries to liberate from their ideology. The artist is guided by a sensitive intuition and curiosity for human communication and interpersonal behavior.

Aklima’s work was part of the 1st International Print Triennial in Cieszyn, Poland,entitled »In the search of Impossible«. For her contribution she was awarded with the Dean of the Faculty of Arts Award. She received the Fügerpreis (2021) from Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Austria. Recently she was nominated for the Stiftung Vordeberge-Gildewart award and showed at the nominees exhibition at Museum of modern Art Ludwig Foundation Vienna (MUMOK), Vienna. She is also part of group show ‘Soft Machine‘a unique collaboration with the Austrian Pavilion at the 59th International Art Exhibition La biennale di Venezia by Artist Ashley Hans Scheirl & Jakob Lena Kneblalongside their students.
